Lotus Sutra Typeface
Celestial Typography
A new original typeface had to be designed under the parameters and limitations of the online program Fontstruct (a free, font-building program that makes it easy to construct fonts out of geometrical-shaped titles on a grid). Lotus Sutra typeface, is a combination of stencil elements and serif elegance with stroke width variance and ligatures among specific glyph pairings.
According to East Asian Buddhists, the Lotus Sutra contains the ultimate teachings of Buddha and the recitation of the text is understood to be good karma. The typeface contains terminals that resemble the contours of lotus flower petals, in consequence, this typeface was named Lotus Sutra since it metaphorically represents the “good karma” and the “ultimate teachings” of a deity. Lotus Sutra can be considered as the ultimate, modern, celestial typeface.
